Work...programmer by trade, physicist by association
I am currently working for ETH Zurich, based at CERN. I work for the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment... a machine for which most of the time the answer actually is 'mu'. This should entertain anyone who has read Gödel, Escher, Bach.
Although I'm very interested in particle physics, I studied mathematics instead of physics at university. Though I suppose there might be call for a mathematician somewhere at CERN (yes, I foolishly continue to hold out hope that there is call for a mathematician somewhere in this world, other than weather bureaus) I work as a programmer. I work on several different things, many of which involve software to help various other applications put data into Oracle databases.
