FORA:
Friendly Objection: Really "A"
(fora is a more technically proper plural to "forum")

see chambers dictionary, page 631.
we've covered this theme before on this site.
-
I don't have access to a Chambers dictionary. Since most of my websters and Random Houses are tucked away, I generally use webster.com, which lists both "fora" and "forums" as valid plurals of "forum." I prefer fora, myself. Forum is originally a latin word, you know.
-
Chambers also lists both fora and forum, without saying either is more correct.
-
I say that "fora" is more correct, because it came first. "forums" was invented, if my theory holds, by people too lazy to remember an irregular plural. 'Tis a pity I am having Acronymists' Block involving "IRREGULAR PLURAL."
ACRONYMISTS' BLOCK:
Acronym Creation Rundown. Overall, nasty. Yikes. May I Suggest, "Terrible Sickness, Bad [as] Obesity."? Christ, [it] Kills!

I disagree with your supposition. In daily usage the English language changes, slowly and subtly. The repeated use of a foreign word slowly changes it from being a foreign word into being an "English" word,
What is the 'correct' plural of any of the following....
"bungalow", "colleen", "goy" ?
When a word is subsumed into another language it becomes subject to the grammatical whims of its new home.
"Fora" is 'correct' if one is speaking Latin, "Forums" is the English form of the plural.
To cure you of the dreaded Acronymists Block, I suggest that you get out your Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia and browse at random until inpsiration strikes....
ACRONYMISTS' BLOCK (2):
After Creativity Runs Off Needlessly, Your Mind Is Stuck. Take Some Books & Look Over Complex Knowledge.
Has no-one any education-related acronyms to add to those I cobbled together earlier in this thread?
-
I still say fora, regardless...and that's my choice. Say forums if you wish, it's no skin off my nose (or yours). Anyway,
SCHOOL

ACRONYMISTS' BOCK, huh? :)

I believe you have to acronymise that now. I guess we could let you away with doing "ACRONYMISTS' BLOCK" with the L, though. Somehow the L found its way into your name instead. Thus,

I don't have to, you already did.

You left out the L. Hence, something new. <evil grin>
-
No, you left out the L. Go back and have a look at your expansion.

There...I fixed it. :)

Jeff should have written......

It's Laughable! Each Flaw-Teasing Acronym: New Flaw. One Unfailing Typed Output From Me, & Yucky Acronym Cycle's Rounded Off. Now, You Must Always Notice Details... Initials Not Excluded, Valid Expansion, Recheck Nothing's Omitted - Type It Correctly, Everything Done.

Not to beat a dead, long-decayed, and forgotton horse...but what are the plurals to these:
Foot
Man
Woman
Datum
Diagnosis
Have you ever heard of Foots, Mans, Womans, Datums, and Diagnosises? None of these words are correct plurals...so why should Forums not be Fora if Feet, Men, Women, Data, and Diagnoses are correct? I guess we all should be speaking Esperanto or some other made up language, English is BALDERDASH.
Blatently Actual Load of D*mned Excrement. Really Awful Sh*t Haul.

The entire post above is best described as a Jest Or Kiddish Expletive.

<Jeff> English is BALDERDASH.
<Angela> As I've previously noted, ENGLISH is: Eccentricities Numerous... Grammar Learning Is Superlatively Hard.
I'm sure you realise that forums and fora are both correct. :)

Aye, however I am a pedant (can't help it). To me, "forums" is no more correct than "datums." But have you ever heard of a Datumsbase? No. :)
