Title: You are what you eat
Post by: Angela on August 06, 2002, 12:26:44 PM
Hello,

Someone sent me an expansion for DAVID: Delicious And Very Interesting Dessert. Considering our propensity for expanding things as though they're food, I thought perhaps we could have a subcategory of Names called 'You are what you eat' for expanding names like this. Perhaps the expansions would describe that person's favourite food, or to really go with the heading, somehow punnily describe a personality at the same time as the food.

I don't have any examples of my own yet, I'm just putting forward the idea.

Thank you, Tony, for sending me here! This one may awaken my acronymical urges.

Pansies Are Tasteless, Really Intended (to) Create Instant Atmosphere

I am, of course, referring to the pansies which pretentious restaurants-in-hotels put on your plate along with your scanty serving of hors d'oeuvres to justify the inflated price.

Pansies are edible and I often add them to potato salad to make it look pretty and impress people at a pot-luck supper.

All that butter is bad for you ;-)

AMBER: Another Major Butter Eater Revealed!

Though I think a lot of people are way too paranoid about eating harmless things like butter, I couldn't help thinking of this pun:

BIG BUTTER
Butter Increases Glutton's Buttock, Unless They Take up Exercising Regularly

I like melted butter on potatoes or toast, the latter perhaps with a thin coating of vegemite or marmite. It's always mystified me why people feel compelled to put butter underneath every other spread. Butter doesn't even go with most spreads, and the spreads are perfectly nice on their own... it seems to be just a habit.

Perhaps this habit is simply so that the butter won't go off. I don't go through much butter on potatoes or toast, so I don't buy any butter since I know I won't eat it all.

Anyway, according to babynames.com, WINDA means chasing for food, so:

I'm a butter lover too, but I am aware of the alleged health problems. Try putting a thin smear of marmite/vegemite on buttered toast and topping it with generous slices of mature Cheddar cheese.

Mm... cheese is another thing I like melted... but not just on toast with marmite/vegemite - melted cheese is delicious almost anywhere.

Decimal-pointedly! That one had me laughing. :^)

What, or who, is "Moki'?

I imagine that if one tried to eat gravy on toast one would become Toasty Mucky O'Gravy.

It's a fish. I found the word in my dictionary because I had a vague recollection of there being a fish or something which sounded like McCoy. I then did extensive research to find out whether people eat it (apparently blue moki is popular) and also found a reference (googlewhack!) to Japanese "moki rice". The only alternative I could come up with was Toasty McDonalds' O'Gravy.

I'm not at all cross, but very, very amused. My full name is Tangelo Queerly Bred - and don't tease me about my middle name! Still edible but less tangelo-centric would be Tangelo Fairy Bread - same problem. So perhaps I'll go with Tangelo Maori Bread.

Hot-cross buns are also fruity cross-bread.
