Hi,

It's a great challenge to try acronymising every word on a particular topic - like the chemical elements and other topics covered in the acronym tours. If you feel like acronymising a list of words like that but can't think of a good topic to acronymise, or you can think of a topic but don't have the knowledge or inclination to tackle it yourself, how about using this forum. People can post ideas here about things to acronymise, and others might see the ideas and decide to try acronymising that topic.

If you can think of a few acronyms on a topic but not all of them, that's okay - other people might fill in the blanks. Also it doesn't matter if the same words are expanded twice. Here are some topics I thought of - if you think of any others, post them here and maybe it'll inspire someone to start acronymising.

US States
US presidents
Capital cities
Musical instruments
Items of clothing
Animals (or breeds of a particular species)
Plants (again, you could limit the list to a particular type of plant, like vegetables or trees)

One well-defined, finite list which could be completely acronymised is the sports in the upcoming Olympics in Sydney.

There's an image at:

http://www.olympics.com/eng/sports/images/chooser.gif

which lists all the sports, which I found on this page:

http://www.olympics.com/eng/sports/home.html

If you go to that page you can click on parts of the image to get information on each sport.

Some sports have already been done, but you can acronymise them again if you like. Once they've all been acronymised I'll put up a tour of them.

Paino must be a particularly ancient spelling of piano which I'm not aware of.

I liked BAGPIPES the best. :)

Modern music is often created on computers - in fact that's a field in which I believe the Macintosh dominates.

MACINTOSH: Musical/Modern Artists' Cyber-Instrument - New Technology Of Sequencing Harmonies.

How about some more topics to acronymise? I know we tend to just acronymise things in a new thread and start a topic that way, but if there are topics which you think might inspire other people but which you have no acronyms for so far, mention them here.

I shall claim tiredness, as it was early morning when I 'created' that abomination!

So, is Euclid a newcomer, or one of us in disguise, like Trickertreat was?

It was Angela who acronymised all those 'famous' mathematicians ;-)

Actually Tony did Euclid - it was a pun on the fact that the acronym being expanded was "Triangle".

I thought so... stop trying to incriminate me by impersonating people I've expanded! :)

Well, you missed out an APOSTROPHE!

A Pointer Of Syncopation, The Rightful Owner(s), Perh... "Hello, Entrant!"

(mixing two meanings of 'apostrophe' here ;)

I didn't miss it out, it was purposely omitted on visual grounds.... it looked better without the apostrophe.
