"All I want is someThink different, and you could give it to me..."
from "Liar" by the Cranberries

I believe everybody has the right to at least one obsession, I currently have several. I also believe that a surefire way of turning an interest into an obsession is to join an internet mailing list on the subject - I'm on quite a few of those. At the moment, my two main obsessions are Macintosh computers (it's part of the Macintosh culture to be obsessed with the OS) and music by The Cranberries (the link goes to my Cranberries links and trading page.) In the past, I have been obsessed with the TV show "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," but I quit the mailing list when it became too full of discussion about episodes screening in the USA which I hadn't seen yet. I have also been interested in elementary particle physics, and I still do get bursts of interest in it if the subject comes up... but as with many other things, lately I haven't had a lot of time to pursue that interest.

One of my maths lecturers at Massey saw this web page and tells me I should be more obsessed with maths... well, I don't see why anybody would actually major in mathematics without being a trifle obsessed, so I guess I must be. In fact just recently I joined a maths mailing list about maths, so it now qualifies as a full-scale obsession... although I don't get posts from that list as often as I do from other mailing lists, so I'm not too sure what that makes my total number of obsessions. Whatever the number is, I'm sure it's irrational - most obsessions are.

Those of you who share my Macintosh obsession (and hopefully others of you as well) would be familiar with Apple's 'Think different' advertising campaign, and the posters featuring famous different-thinkers, in black-and-white except for the rainbow Apple in the corner. I've made my own version - click here to see my 'Sit different' poster.

My friend Dustan Dowsing has even created a 'Sit different' movie, advertising the PowerBook G3. Download it as a StuffIt or Zip file. (Note: Dustan's web pages are not online at the time of typing this... so there's a possibility that these links won't work.)

My friend Dustan and I went to the Apple Spring Update last year, and we painted MacOS logos on our faces - they gave us iBook T-shirts because of that! Here are some pictures. There's also a silly little animated gif titled 'Walk different' on my Cerebral Palsy page.

And, just to prove how obsessed I am... my Mac has a homepage! (several, actually.) Have a look - there are pages with Mac links and some of my favourite Mac software, and more. Perhaps your Mac would like to make itself a homepage too and link to my Mac's.

Another half-obsession (which I am not on a mailing list for) is iced coffee... it's yummy! Dustan and I have created a website all about iced coffee and our reviews of it at cafes around New Zealand. This website is also temporarily offline, but hopefully it will be back by the time you read this.
